THE INTRODUCTION
She was 15 years older than him but her skin was flawless, small waist and hips that curved at the right angle to make him wonder what she felt like. Inside and out.
As they played like they didn't notice each other, the time came where they had to speak. As he poured himself a drink she politely asked if she could taste his concoction. Quickly he noticed it wasn't what she said it was how she said it, and in that moment he not only wanted to get to know her better but he wanted her to taste more than just his drink.

House Party
After a long Saturday of ripping and running with the kids, Tamra was finally in “Me” mode. Because all of her children have different fathers she was able to arrange sleepovers with each of their grandparents. She has two boys and three girls ranging from ages 19-3 years old and was willing and able to have a few more.
At 37 years old, Tamra still looked like she was in her late twenties. Carmel skin with just a hint of cinnamon and not one blemish, girlfriend is flawless. No make-up needed with her, just a touch of Vaseline and cocoa butter to shine up her glow, a little lip-gloss and mascara and she is ready to hit the town. But tonight she was heading to her Cousin Paul’s fight party.
Now Paul worked for the government but kept his street connections tight. He grew-up in the heart of the city so his childhood friends ran the gamut from police officers to dope boys but at the end of the day they all were family.
The party was scheduled to start at 9 p.m. so Tamra wanted to be there at 8:30. Paul was good at having small gatherings but he always needed help with minor details such as napkins, paper plates, ice, etc. You know the things that women look for when they are coming to someone’s house for a function. As long as Paul had liquor, cups to hold the liquor, weed, and toilet tissue he felt the party was complete.
Tamra arrived around 8:45 and things were jumping already at Paul’s. A few of his “green collar” friends had been there already (and what I mean by green collar is they were the street kings of cash if you catch my drift). Each one of them was very handsome in their own right but Tamra was done with the bad boys. She wanted a man with a good job and some benefits that could help her out with her four underage children and even willing to assist with her eldest child’s college tuition.
By 9:30 the house was full of family and friends, everyone was laughing, talking, have a great time when a loud knock put everything on standstill. You have to realize that by now the entire house main aroma is Loud at this point, you have dudes rolling dice, weapon unconcealed, folks with warrants and this was not an ordinary knock. It was that police knock that leaves children over 13 frozen and motivates adults to start hiding the goods.
Paul crept to the door silently and looked out the peephole only to see it was his boy Luke playing as usual. Paul turned to the room and gave the 2 thumbs up to let everyone know they can relax and continue to enjoy the night. Although Paul sent the comfort signal, everyone watched as he unlocked the door and once it had been locked behind Luke everyone began to let him know how uncomfortable his banging had made them. Yelling and cursing rang throughout the entire house. Luke just glided in giving daps to the dudes and hugs to the ladies flashing his wide smile and white teeth.
As he headed Tamara’s way he flashed his smile extra hard, Luke knew the ladies loved an attractive man with nice teeth so he would show off every now and then to close a deal; if the deal seemed to have potential of course. Tamra shyly smiled back attempting to avoid eye contact and nudged her cousin Mindy mumbling under her breath, “Girl, Who is that?!” Before Mindy could answer Luke was giving her a hug whispering in her ear, “Who is your friend?”, Mindy quickly whispered, “Tell you later.”
Needless to say they talked and got to know that they both enjoyed movies, the club and having a good time in general. The night ended with Luke walking Tamra to her car where they exchanged numbers and because the kiss on her cheek was so soft she leaned in, placed her lips on his, and before she knew it Luke had slipped his tongue into her mouth and they kissed as if they had known each other longer than two hours.
She was unaware that he was only 22 and thought that he shared her feelings of lust. Luke, unaware that she was 37 assumed she fell in love with him at this very moment. With one kiss he thought he was in love with her but all she wanted was to feel him inside of her.

The Hold Out
A week had passed and neither Luke nor Tamra wanted to be the first to call one another. They both assumed if the other didn’t call then they would surely see one another at Paul’s cook that was in 2 weeks. However, Tamra was considering ditching the cookout just in case Luke was thinking like she had been. Within the last week she had spoken to Paul a few times and he never mentioned Luke so she was really unsure if he was really feeling her. At this point she felt as though if she didn’t show and he really wanted to pursue her he would definitely call her.
On another note each of her kids fathers were late with child support and although Tamra was used to this, she was not prepared to go without the additional $2,000 for the month. Being as though Tamra was a very successful Marketing Director for a national brand, the court only ruled $500 for each under age child and the eldest daughter, who was 19 years old, father was killed just after she was born so she received a social security check that barely assisted with her college tuition. This made things tight for Tamra when tuition rolled around but other than that she lived very comfortably on the monies she earned at work.
Luke was only 22 but had been a legal assistant since he was 19 years old. With only a few courses in college under this field he began working in the mailroom of this very prestigious law firm. I know you may be thinking, “So what! How many other people start in the mailroom and work their way up?”, but Luke was special and everyone in the law firm knew it.
At 17 years of age when he started in the mail room, he delivered each piece with precision and a smile. Luke came to learn which pieces of mail were considered junk to each individual and which employees anticipated the junk mail. He knew of their pets, children, spouses, as well as the head honchos mistress. Everyone he came in contact with felt as if they had a chance to share their life in the office with someone who would listen.
In 3 years Luke had managed to be not just any ordinary legal assistant; he was the legal assistant to the partners and was quickly being labeled as their protégé amongst the team. The only negative about Luke was that he still lived with his Momma and was very much a Momma’s boy.
Now how was a grown woman supposed to get serious with what we call a “baby boy”? You know the type that want to be grown but get home and act like a little boy as soon as they see their Momma…. Well this was him and this had to change because a woman like Tamra was not into raising anymore kids.
They both thought of the conversation they had and the kiss they shared and neither could shake the constant thought of the other. Both equally stubborn and not wanting the other to know just how much they wanted to be together, to share another kiss or maybe more. They went about their days and weeks and played their next encounter in their heads over and over until that time came. Needless to say that would be much sooner than later being as though Tamra’s assistant is Luke’s boss’ mistress.

Numbers Don't Lie
Today was a big day for the company Tamra had been working for. She was in the works of branding all of their merchandise with an image of a skeleton key so anyone and everyone would know her company had their hands on any products with the image. She had been in meetings with so many lawyers but none gave her the confidence she fed off of when she was doing business. For months her assistant Simone has been speaking highly of a law firm she knew a lot about but never said how she came to know so much. Tamra trusted Simone’s opinion and business savvy and told her to set up a meeting as soon as possible. In less than 24 hours Simone had secured a meeting the next day at 9 a.m. sharp.
Tamra was dressed to the nines. She wore her hair bone straight with a part slightly to the left, hair mid-waist length and oriental black. Her pant suit was synched in the right places and the pant legs hung just right showing just the right amount of shoe. She never wanted to be too sexy in a first time meeting but she didn’t want to hide the fact that she very well could be sexy in whatever she choose to wear.
As she and Simone reviewed meeting notes, she noticed it was 8:52 and if this was the type of firm she would deal with they would be there early. At least 5 minutes according to her standards. She gave Simone a once over and noticed that Simone was looking really nervous. Before Tamra could question Simone the intercom rang announcing Mrs. Raigan Reynolds of Clark, Reynolds & Zaant along with her legal assistant Luke Carter.
Once Tamra heard the name Luke, she thought to herself this couldn’t be the same guy. Paul had all sorts of friends but a legal assistant?! NAH!
As the figures of a man and a woman bent the corner the frosted glass surrounding the meeting room only revealed their legs so as the door opened Tamra was inching toward the edge of her seat preparing to stand as the door fully opened and there stood Luke so busy opening the door for Mrs. Reynolds he had yet to notice Tamra falling back into her seat attempting to catch her balance on her 5 inch Jessica Simpson pumps.
Just as Simone attempted to buy Tamra a few more seconds to collect herself by introducing herself Luke glanced up and at Simone and was pleasantly surprised to see that this was not just any meeting, they were meeting with Mrs. Reynolds mistress, Simone!
Simone shot Luke a look as she realized he noticed her from her in office lunch dates with Raigan. Simone escorted them both over to where Tamra was able to stand up straight by leaning onto the conference table. She and Luke caught eyes and it seemed as if they were the only ones in the room. Simone noticed that they both were speechless so she continued, “I would like to introduce you both to Tamra Simms, our Marketing Director and Ms. Simms this is Raigan Reynolds, Esq. and her assistant Luke Carter.
Tamra shook Raigan’s hands all while looking into Luke’s eyes and mumbled ever so quietly. “Pleased to meet you.” She slowly pulled her hand back placing it into Luke’s as he said slowly, “The pleasure is all mine.”
The meeting had to go on and both Raigan and Simone were clearly confused at this instant attraction these two seemed to be having. Simone gently pinched Tamra’s arm and it did the job because Tamra snapped out of it and was ready to work.
The meeting went well and 2 ½ hours later the company owned the image of the skeleton key and anyone that had been using an image remotely similar to theirs and had not secured it legally would either stop using it or pay them to continue. This was a great day for Tamra’s career and role within the company.
Simone escorted both Raigan and Luke to their car and as she gave them both hugs and a firm handshake she whispered to Raigan to call her tonight. As the town car pulled off Tamra walked behind Simone and thanked her for having her back in there. Simone assured Tamra that it was nothing but wanted to know what was up with the legal assistant. Tamra made Simone promise not to tell anyone and began to tell her how she and Luke had met. Just as Tamra got to the kiss Simone began to laugh hysterically.
“What’s so funny?”
“That boy is 22!”
“WHAT?!” Tamra yelled and demanded that Simone tell her EVERYTHING she knew about Luke and how she knew all of this information. Needless to say it was a long night.
Just Us
Both Raigan and Luke sat in the town car in silence thinking of what just took place. Luke couldn’t wait to go home and call Tamra. After seeing her today playing the waiting game felt silly. She obviously was feeling him and he couldn’t deny any longer what he felt.
Next to him Raigan sat thinking how beautiful Simone had looked and was pretty sure that was she would not be able to call her tonight. Tonight was date night with her husband, and although Raigan was madly in love with her husband she could not help falling in love with Simone. The last thing either of them wanted to reveal is that they were together. Simone’s Aunt had been the Reynolds neighbor for 20 years now. Neither one of them wanted to ruin the family ties that have grown over that time but after 8 years of having an affair it was getting hard to hide the feelings that were growing rapidly between the two.
Once Tamra caught Simone up on she and Luke’s first meeting, Tamra was curious as to how Mrs. Reynolds and Simone met. Simone not ready to trust anyone with she and Raigan’s secret said quickly, “She’s my Aunt’s neighbor. The entire family rants about her and the law firm so I thought you two could work together.” Tamra let the story set into her mind then gave Simone a “sure” glance and said, “Well, good call.” They both packed up and headed home wondering what tomorrow would bring.
Before Tamra could get her key in the door her cell phone began to ring. Her hands were full with her brief case, mail and a milk shake from Chik-fil-A and her cell phone was somewhere swimming in the duffle bag she called a purse. She finally burst through the door setting her belongings on the sofa table and fortunately whoever was calling was very persistent because she found her cell phone just as she walked over to disarm her alarm.
“Hello?”
“Tamra?”
“Yes?”
“It’s Luke.”
“Well, Hello youngin. You can talk on the phone this late?”
“So I take you know my age? Since you sound offended may I ask how old are you?”
Tamra took a second to think. While she thought that Luke was way too young for her she couldn’t stomach him thinking she was too old but she couldn’t lie. She took a deep breath and belted out with confidence and a hint of sass, “35 years old and I look good.”
“Who said you didn’t?”
“Well, I am just saying.”
“No need, I see how good you look.” Luke said jokingly.
They both laughed and spent the next 5 hours talking on the phone and getting to know one another better. Luke took the news of Tamra’s 5 children and 4 living baby father’s well. Tamra accepted that Luke still lived at home with his mother nicely. He shared with her his dreams and game plan to move out soon and potential with a plan is all Tamra needed him to say at this point in their friendship.
Before they knew it the birds were chirping and the sun was just about to come up and both had enough energy to get dressed and complete the work day with vigor. The excitement of their date tonight kept their minds and hearts racing all day. Tamra hadn’t felt like this since she was a teenager and Luke had yet to ever feel like this. The work day was ending and tonight would be the beginning of many nights shared between them.
1 month later, Luke’s mom wanted to meet the woman who kept her baby away from home and Tamra’s children were very happy with their “new” daddy.
Next to him Raigan sat thinking how beautiful Simone had looked and was pretty sure that was she would not be able to call her tonight. TRUE COLORS (5/2/2012)
Time was flying and before they knew it they had been dating for 6 months. Tamra avoided meeting Luke’s mother but as they grew closer she knew she would have to meet her sooner or later.
Luke spent most of his time at Tamra’s house and she knew it was rude to basically have him so involved with her family and not meet his mother. However, the closer they got the more Luke confided in Tamra on how uncomfortable his mother was about her age and the amount of children she had. As Tamara sat and listened to Luke go on and on about what his mother thought of her she didn’t know if she could ever tell him she was really 37 and not 35. She would cross that bridge if she needed to but for now, it wasn’t time.
Other than the constant thought of his mother's perception things were running smoothly. Even though they did not discuss that he lived there Luke
stayed there every day, dropped the kids off at school and picked them up from daycare and school every day on time. While Luke was falling in love Tamra fought the feeling and traded it in for the convenience of having a full-time lover and assistance with the children. To her this was what she had waited for, love was so overrated to her and this was perfect. The children adored him; he was old enough to demand respect yet young enough to enjoy video games, tag, and evenings at the park with them. Everyone was happy; everyone except for Luke’s mother.
Miss Grace had raised Luke to be responsible and although she was a single mother she never wanted her son to date a single mother, let alone one with 5 children and more than a decade older than her baby. As far as Miss Grace was concerned no woman with morals would date a boy and she was sure that this floosy was setting her son up for failure.
Luke went from living at home, seeing his mother everyday to visiting her once a week. By the time 6
months rolled around once a week turned into once every 2 weeks and now 3 weeks later Miss Grace was beginning to worry about Luke. It wasn’t like him to not even check on her knowing that she was all alone in a 3 story home. She decided not to wait another moment and put aside her pride and called.
The phone rang several times and just when she believed she was headed to voicemail Luke answered. Luke sounded as if he was in a rush and by now he had all four children in the car. They were loud and all Miss Grace could here is tiny voices laughing and talking in the background.
“Hey Ma, how are you?”
“I’m doing just fine. Just missing my baby.”
Luke smiled, he had been missing her too. “I am coming over as soon as I drop the kids off at Tamra’s.”
“Why wait till then? Bring them with you. I would love to meet them.” Miss Grace knew it was a lie but she wanted to see if these kids were well kept. Miss Grace felt like nothing told more about a woman than how she let her kids leave the house. Her son being with a trifling woman was not going to happen as long as she was living.
“Well….” Luke couldn’t find an excuse good enough as to why he couldn’t bring the kids over and he was so in love with them as well as Tamra he felt it was time that his mother met them all and really was tired of waiting for the right time.
“We are on our way.”
15 minutes later Luke pulled up with a car full of children, 2 boys and 2 girls. Miss Grace gazing out the window just starring with a dazed look on her face and said, “Jesus”.
Before Luke could get his key out Miss Grace was opening the door with her best sweetold lady voice. “How’s my baby?! And who are these adorable children. They are so clean!” They all blushed and stuck close together. Luke ignored the clean remark and introduced them all.
Ma, this is Troy, Nick, Dana and Asia. And guys this is my mother Miss Grace. In unison they all chimed,
“Hi Miss Grace.”
“Hello,it's so nice to meet you all. Very handsome boys and very pretty girls. How old are you all?”
Before Troy could answer Luke interrupted and began pointing starting in the order he named them. “Troy’s 12, Nick’s 8, Dana is 5, and Princess Asia is 3.”
Miss Grace could see that Luke was closest to Asia out of all the children. She clung to his leg and hung on every word he said and Luke held her hand and watched every move she made. She could see it in her son’s eyes that he was very comfortable with playing house with these children as well as their mother. She just couldn't believe that her baby was ready for this sort of responsibility.
“And where is their mother?” Miss Grace tried to ask nicely but it came out her mouth just as smart as she thought it in her mind. Just as Luke was about to answer her his phone rang.
Tamra had a long day and was waiting at home for Luke and the kids. Dinner was ready and she wanted to get them all to bed so that she could relax. To her surprise no one was home but before she called Luke she wanted to relax just a little and do some things around the house she had not been able to since he was there all the time.
When she finished straightening up and wiping things down she called and Luke sounded weird, like he really didn’t want to answer her call. “Where are you guys?”
“We are at my mother’s house.”
“YOUR MOTHER’S HOUSE?!”
“Yes, she wanted to see me and she wanted to meet the kids so we just stopped by.”
“So, she wanted to meet MY kids without meeting ME?! What is really going on over there?”
“Nothing! Why you trippin’?”
Just as Luke tone raised he noticed his mother shifting her weight to one side and putting her hand on her hip. He knew that this conversation would not help in his attempts for them to
get along.
Tamra, still yelling on the other end was surprised to hear the dial tone that followed after a brief moment of silence. Yes, he hung up on her and Tamra was burning up inside with anger. All the while Luke was steadily apologizing to his mother while ushering the kids to the car. Miss Grace said nothing because her thoughts were running a mile a minute.
Once Luke got all the kids in the car she called him back to the porch and asked if they all could have dinner together sometime this weekend. Luke assured his mother he would ask Tamra and get back to her as soon as possible. After all it was Thursday.
As soon as Luke got in the car and pulled off he called Tamra back. She didn’t even say hello and proceeded to yell and call Luke every name in the book. Her insults ranged from him being a little boy, a momma’s boy, and how much she hated him and wished he went to hell. Luke was amazed and couldn’t believe the sweet woman he had been with the past 6 months was speaking to him like he was nothing and meant nothing to her.
Before he could utter a word she hung up and not even 30 seconds later she was calling back to apologize, professing her love for him and he accepted. Agreeing with her that he was wrong and accepted that the stressful day she just described was why she lashed out. He wasn’t ready to accept that thiscould possibly be her and that she was not wrapped too tight.
Needless to say, this one argument would be the first of many and the Luke would soon learn that not only did Tamra suffer from anger issues but she was scandalous and dedicated to getting what she wanted from any and everyone who wanted to be in her circle.
